Success Story- Emily

September 7, 2012Well a year after signing up, and 5 months of hard dedicated training the day finally arose on Aug 26th for me to test my endurance with Ironman Canada. For those who don’t know, an Ironman is a triathlon consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and a 42.2k run and you have 17 hours to complete it to earn the title of Ironman. My day was long but great, and I managed to stay positive for the entire day! I have to admit that I actually had fun out there over my 12 hours and 16 minutes that I was on the course. The race made me feel alive, its a true test of endurance and how far you can push the body, in fact the 5 months of training was harder than the race itself. I’m so happy that I was able to be part of the 30th anniversary of Ironman Canada. And while I’m happy to have had the opportunity to train for and compete in such an endurance race, I realize that my passion for triathlon lies in the shorter distance races, so next year I will focus on the half-iron and Olympic distances.

Run: 4:29
