After starting to run for personal health and recreation, Tara Postnikoff realized a new career opportunity in providing nutritional consulting
Toronto, ON. January 2007
“Just like training for a marathon, training to eat right can be frustrating and confusing without the right information,” says Tara Postnikoff, Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner. “Proper food choices are critical to achieving and maintaining optimal health and performance. For runners, nutrition and food choices are critical to maximizing energy, improving performance and preventing injury.
“Food quality is just as, if not more, important than food quantity. Food needs to be fresh, whole, clean and uncontaminated. Many of us are overfed yet undernourished”, says Tara. Since beginning running 5 years ago, Tara has completed several half-marathons. However, her interest in health and fitness is not new, as she has always led an active lifestyle.
Tara recently graduated as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner, and is affiliated with the IONC (International Organization for Nutritional Consultants) as a Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner based in Toronto. Tara’s philosophy is that everyone can be and deserves to be healthy and fit. Tara realized her true calling lay in helping others find optimum health through healthy eating and active living, founding HEAL.
“It’s well known that nutrition plays a key role in developing top athletic performance for marathons” said John Stanton, founder of the Running Room. “Many runners tend to focus solely on training, neglecting their nutritional program and depriving themselves of true peak performance. Our stores regularly hold training clinics, where topics include nutrition, and Tara has been a guest speaker at our Yonge Street store in Toronto for both the Half-Marathon clinic and the Learn-To-Run clinic.”
“Running a marathon is all about energy management” says Tara. “It doesn’t matter how long you have trained or how motivated you are if you run out of energy before the finish line. Proper nutrition helps an athlete produce and utilize energy more efficiently.”
“Some of the common pitfalls which affect energy management and athletic performance include skipping breakfast, waiting too long after a work out to eat, replacing meals with energy bars and shakes too often and inadequate hydration.”
HEAL provides Nutritional Counseling aimed at the active individual and amateur athlete for athletic performancee, weight management, detoxification and improved energy.
What is Nutritional Counseling?
The main focus of Nutritional Counseling is wellness and building health. The designation “Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner” signifies a nutritional practitioner who has met the standards of the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants– a voluntary, independent, non-profit association. The IONC was established in 1983 to assure the public that practitioners continue to meet high educational standards.
