April 18, 2010Success Story – Tom Kern
May 4, 2010Tired of spending $3-$4 on energy bars that can be little more than chocolate or candy bars? Why not try making your own custom bars to suit your likes for quick energy on the go! The balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat will help tie you over until your next meal.
3 cups organic oats (or other grain)
2 cups mixed nuts, seeds and dried fruits
1 cup mashed banana
2-3 mashed dates
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp greens powder (optional)
Combine oats, mixed nuts, seeds and dried fruits, banana and dates in a food processor or hand blender until well mixed. Stir in chia seeds and greens powder by hand. Shape into bars, balls or custom shape.
Bake at 250 F for 40-45 minutes, or until lightly browned. Don’t over bake.
Wrap individually in parchment paper and store in freezer to keep longer.
Nutritionist Tip: Look for raw, unsalted nuts and seeds as well as dried fruits that contain no added oils or sulphates/sulphites.
